With a history as rich as Saratoga Springs – a place with an identity all too often oversimplified to horse races and spa days – Phila Street exists in a world apart, with a vibrance and legacy all its own. Each generation has left their mark on these few storied blocks, repurposing and reimagining these spaces, creating communities wholly removed from the bustle of Broadway.

For decades 42 Phila Street was lovingly known as the Palmetto Fruit Market, a bustling scene of commerce and community. Over the years, it has also been a livery, a ceramics studio, and now soon to be an essential addition to Saratoga’s wine scene.
As a fundamental attribute of the town, the significance of the arts to Saratoga is undeniable. Jazz, ballet, and orchestral performances define the summer season; stories of the ‘85 Dead show and Bob Dylan at Caffe Lena are legendary; and Skidmore College was founded on the principle that art was an essential part of a truly fulfilled life.
Familiar Creature is well-aligned with this esteem of arts and culture. Turning towards a design method of appreciation over imitation, we pull gleefully from classic approaches, while irreverently playing with modern perspectives.
